A free Irish game for children aged 4 to 8.
Cluiche Glasóg is a free Irish-language game for little ones who are meeting their first words as Gaeilge. It's set on an Irish beach, An Trá, with Muirín the puffin to show them around. Children play through five small games and pick up real Irish words as they go, without anyone sitting them down for a lesson.
It's free, and it stays free. No account, no app to download, no ads, and no personal data collected, only anonymous counts of how many games get played. It runs in any web browser, so a child can start straight away on a tablet, a phone held sideways, or the board in a classroom.
The five mini-games
- Tonnta: catch the right thing in the waves as Muirín calls out its Irish name.
- Beathaigh an Rón: feed Rónán the seal his dinner, one word at a time.
- Péinteáil Draíochta: rub the sand off the rock to reveal a hidden picture, then find its written word.
- Cuimhne na bPortán: a memory game with the little crabs, matching pictures and their Irish words.
- Caisleán: build a sandcastle by handing Muirín the right tool when she asks for it.
What it teaches
First words by the sea: colours (dathanna), sea creatures (ainmhithe mara), and beach objects. Every word is shown three ways at once, the picture, the spoken word in a real Irish voice, and the written Irish, so children who can't read yet still connect the sound to the thing.
For parents
