Our Story

Glas. Óg. Young and Green.

Glasóg is the Irish word for the wagtail · a small, lively bird you'll spot darting along every river and hedgerow in Ireland. But break the word apart and it tells another story: glas means green, óg means young. Young and green. That's exactly what we're about.

We're Caroline and Sarah · two friends and mothers based in County Wexford, with kids ranging from toddlers to teenagers between us. We make Irish-language children's clothing for a new generation · kids who are growing up with Irish as a living, breathing part of who they are. Not a school subject. Not something on a tea towel. A language that belongs to them.

Like a lot of Irish people, we learned Irish in school, let it drift, and found our way back. Coming back to the language as adults, we saw it differently · not as something we had to learn, but something we wanted to keep alive. And when we looked for clothes that reflected that · cool, modern, something our kids would actually want to wear · we couldn't find them.

So we made them.

We started in a converted garage in Wexford, figuring out how to print on organic cotton, getting the Irish right (the grammar matters), and testing everything on our own kids first. If a three-year-old wouldn't wear it, it didn't make the cut. If the print cracked after ten washes, we went back to the drawing board. We wanted pieces that would last · not just through one child, but through siblings, cousins, and hand-me-downs.

Every Glasóg design teaches a real Irish word. Our fox t-shirt teaches sionnach. Our mountain sweatshirt teaches sliabh. Our wave hoodie teaches cois farraige. Each piece comes with a pronunciation guide so the whole family can practise together · even if your own Irish is a bit rusty.

Today we ship worldwide from our Wexford studio. We've sent Glasóg to families in Boston, London, Sydney, and everywhere in between · parents and grandparents who want their children to have a connection to Ireland that goes deeper than a shamrock on a mug.

What We Believe

Irish belongs everywhere. On the street, in the playground, on a hoodie. Not just in the classroom. We believe the language should be visible, normal, and part of daily life for the next generation.

Kids deserve better than fast fashion. Our t-shirts are 175gsm OCS-certified organic cotton. Our hoodies and sweatshirts are 280gsm brushed fleece · GOTS certified, OEKO-TEX tested, PETA-Approved Vegan. Real credentials from real certification bodies, not vague marketing claims.

Sustainability isn't a buzzword. It's a choice we make at every step. Organic cotton grown without synthetic pesticides. Recycled polyester from post-consumer plastic bottles. Plastic-free packaging · orders over €30 include a free reusable organic cotton tote backpack for kids. Smaller orders ship in a biodegradable, non-plastic mailer.

We make to order. We don't mass-produce stock and hope it sells. Every piece is printed after you order it · which means zero dead stock, zero waste from unsold inventory, and zero garments going to landfill. Your order is made for you.
